The X-Wing Alliance (XWA) is excited to update the community on technology platforms that support the game. Below are some highlights on the progress made by core members of the XWA Tech Team. It is important to recognize that the game of X-Wing has been crucially supported by community resources for, many years. From squadbuilders, to, tournament software, online resources and simulators, and more. Here are the updates from key individuals:
Stephen (YASB): "YASB continues to exist. XWA points are now default. You can enable or disable the ban list in misc. Settings." (Stephen has a way with words!)
André (Launch Bay Next): "LBN will.continue to exist, supporting and updating both Legacy. and XWA points, while continuing to offer support for AMG points. LBN now uses the same database as rest of the tools so everything should be more in sync going forward"
Ryan (R2-D7 Discord Bot): "Apollo continues his stewardship of R2-D7 with a small update to.
• the code that links it to the XWA team's card database, which includes the new content and points from the group. Lists from YASB and LBN should properly display with correct. XWA points on Discord!"
JimBob (Infinite Arenas): "JimBob is updating Infinite Arenas for compatibility with YASB and.
LBN using all of the latest content. Squad Printer is now fully aligned with the new D'Qar/Armed & Dangerous SL content. Epic Reinforcements will be aligned in the next few days."
Brian (Rollbetter): "I'm actively working on a feature that allows any game and rule set to be added and managed by users. I've created a new game and ruleset under the XWA name.
Once I release the game management featurs, I'll assign some initial volunteers to be the first game stewards, and theyll be responsible for managing the game data, default rulèsets, unit libraries, and list rules. List support for wing should exist currently, but needs to be updated such that 2.5 no longer uses link parsing."
Sam (Longshanks): "Longshanks is proud to support the future of X-Wing with events using the XWA format." (Taking a page from the Raithos playbook)
Flippster (TTS Module): "The Unified X-Wing TTS module has been modified to support the XWA by allowing multiple point sources. It now pulls the points from a common points source (The github repo wing-points) which has been set up to support the different point sources that has been used (AMG, XWA and The 2.0 Legacy). In addition the module now supports multiple pilot databases, and the new XWA pilots have been added to a fresh new database.
When spawning building XWA lists, the set of pilots to choose from includes both the base and the unique XWA pilots, Most of the new pilots use abilities that has support in the module, with the exception of the side-wise bombing from the new starfortress pilots, this would require a more substantial change to the bomb dropper. In order to use these bombers, a . pivot reposition option has been added to these pilots. By pivoting 90 degrees before and after bombing players should be able to use these abilities for the time being."
The X-Wing Alliance (XWA) is thrilled to announce the release of its new content for the Scum, Resistance, and First Order factions. Please visit the XWA Content page to access the new content for points and print and play!

Welcome to our fourth and final preview article for the upcoming Standard Loadout card packs. This time we will be seeing some of the Most Wanted individuals in the galaxy. The images of this post are not final, and items could still change before their final release, planned for April.
As explained in our first preview article, the Most Wanted pack takes inspiration from different shows and canon. We created what could be considered an All-Star team of the faction, unlike what we’ve seen for the Evacuation of D’Qar pack.
We start things off with ‘The Mandalorian’. (also known as Din Djarin). This version of Din Djarin is based on his appearances in both the Book of Boba Fett and The Mandalorian season 3. In those, we find The Mandalorian accompanied by The Child, Grogu, in the Restored Speedster that Peli Motto offered him to replace the destroyed Razor Crest. It is important to note that, at this point in time, the bounty on Grogu was no longer in effect, and the ‘Merciless Pursuit’ against him had stopped. One of the upgrades Peli upgraded the ship with was the Kineso-Switch, which we see him activate to escape from a New Republic patrol. Even though Mando can benefit from being in multiple enemy front arcs thanks to his pilot ability, what we see him do the most is to Outmaneuver his opponents, like he does against Gorian Shard’s crew. To accomplish that, he has access to the Slam action, which can be linked to a red Lock action. Thanks to the Restored Speedster ability, Mando can still shoot at enemies in his bullseye, which pairs perfectly with Calibrated Laser Targeting.
Bo-Katan also participated in several skirmishes together with The Mandalorian, against Moff Gideon’s squadrons hunting her at her castle in Kalevala, and against Gorian Shard’s crew in Nevarro. This version of Bo-Katan focuses on close range combat. Both her pilot ability and her Mandalorian Tactics will allow her to enhance her defensive and offensive capabilities if her enemies are nearby. Wing Reversal will allow her to turn around the Gauntlet in order to remain in close combat for as long as possible. Her trusted Nite Owl Sentries will assist in taking down any enemies surrounding her ship, while her Veteran Tail Gunner will help with threats in the rear arc.
Prince Xizor was a notorious Crime Lord, and a member of the Black Sun criminal syndicate. His personal craft, the Virago, allows Xizor to reposition during the System Phase, while using his Adaptative Microthrusters will make his StarViper hard to track down. The Virago was crafted by MandalMotors, and included some upgrades that only Mandalorians used, like Mandalorian Optics.
The infamous Trandoshan Bossk worked with many other bounty hunters throughout the years, actively collecting bounty from the Galactic Republic era, up to the New Republic times. Piloting his Imposing Behemoth, the Hound’s Tooth, Bossk will look at reinforcing his ship to not just improve his defense, but also improve his offensive capabilities against enemies within the reinforced side, including intimidating the enemy ships to lower their agility. Thanks to Embo, Bossk could try to set a trap that makes other higher Initiative ships partially execute their maneuvers due to overlapping him, to then perform a red reinforce action at the start of the Engagement Phase. Even while stressed, his Contraband Cybernetics will allow Bossk to stay fully operational for an extra round.
The next bounty hunter to take the spotlight is Cad Bane, piloting his Xanadu Blood. Cad has access to a versatile action bar, including a red cloak action. Cad excels at exploiting his enemy’s weak spot when they are in his bullseye. Cad has access to multiple abilities that give strain tokens to his enemies, like Flechette Cannons and Xanadu Blood, or his own ability that allows to transfer some of his red and orange tokens to them. His trusty techno service droid, Todo 360, will also help Cad stay in the fight, relieving some of his stress, improving his options for the round.
The final pilot in today’s preview article is Zuckuss, who was another one of the bounty hunters hired by Vader to hunt Han Solo. Zuckuss is piloting the Mist Hunter, accompanied by 4-Lom. We enhanced Zuckuss action bar, by giving him some linked actions to red calculate. Those come into play with 4-LOM’s ability, which allows Zuckuss to spend those calculate tokens during the End Phase to pass his Stress to enemy ships near him. Zuckuss can shoot his Tractor Beam at the enemy, and then take a strain to follow that up with a powerful primary attack. With any primary attack he can choose that both him and the defender roll an additional die. Being a Persistent Tracker, Zuckuss can, from time to time, still execute red maneuvers and perform red actions even while stressed. When overwhelmed by stress, his Enduring Limitations will remove some of it, by suffering damage.
With that, we end today’s preview. We will see each other again later in April, when we will release both the Most Wanted and the Evacuation of D’Qar packs.
As part of the Competitive Organized Play (OP) experiences, we wanted to create a progressive journey to our first World Championship consisting of multiple levels of competitive tournaments with a tiered rewards system for winning at each level.
You have already seen our first announcement of the first level which consists of the Squad Championships and now we, are ready to announce the second level; which is the System Open! System Opens are large scale events which are intended to cover multiple X-wing communities from a wide array of locations. Intended for 32+ players with progressional cuts. These events are the highest tier of competitive play outside of Worlds. Those who are fortunate enough to win a Squad Championship and. obtain the BYE will be able to redeem these for round.1 of swiss at a System Open.
There will be a limited number of System Opens for our first season. We want to ensure that each System Open is set up to achieve optimal attendance and we hope to ensure this by planning out events so there is little to no overlap and spaced out enough to give players a chance to make plans on attending as many as possible. The, application process begins today (March 14th) and in order to ensure prizing is available for the event, we need applications submitted well ahead of the time of your event (at least 2 months).
If you are a Tournament Organizer who would like to host one of these amazing events, we have created an application form. We understand there are many considerations and questions an organizer may have before wanting to run a System Open. If you have any questions about the application process you can fill out the OP contact form or reach out to one of the OP reps and we can help you through the process and attempt to address any questions or concerns you may have!
The OP team looks forward to supporting the community with these events and hope ie see you out there playing.
With the X-Wing World Championship only a few weeks away, the Organize Play (OP) team is ready to start ramping up for the future of XWA competitive play! On that note, we wanted to introduce the OP team that will be working with all the communities to help navigate the OP season.
Tim King (OP Planning Lead) has reached out to Tournament Organizers and community leads across the globe to assemble a team that is not only knowledgeable in competitive X-wing but are also embedded into the communities they will be working with.
We have Ander (EU/Spanish Rep), Akhter (Aus/SEA Rep), Jakub (EU Rep/ROW), Dwight (NA Rep) which are being led by Tim (UK Rep). We will all be working together to ensure success for the first season of XWA OP.
We want to ensure we are all doing our part to support the community and help nourish TO's old and new to ensure they are set up successfully to run events during our first OP season. In order to achieve that, we have put together a contact form where anyone can reach out and ask the OP team questions or look for help.
Whether it's Squad Championships, System Opens, or just general questions, we are here to help! If you run into one of us at an event, please feel free to say hello, and talk to us about organized play for your communities. You can click this link to fill out the contact form and one of our members will get back to you as soon as we can.
Welcome to our third preview article for the upcoming Standard Loadout card packs. Today we will focus on some of the Resistance pilots that you will find in the Evacuation of D’Qar pack. As a reminder, the images of this post are not final, and could still change before their final release, which is planned for April.
Our goal for the Resistance was to portray the heroic acts of the pilots participating in the battle, trying to buy time for others to be evacuated from the Resistance base. At times, that meant that they put themselves at risk while trying to help their comrades.
Poe Dameron leads the way on a daring attack on the Fulminatrix. It was a reckless move that Leia Organa would later have him reprimanded for. Poe’s plan was to destroy the Fulminatrix’s turrets in order to clear the way for Tallie and her bombers to take the Siege Dreadnought down.
We see Poe performing daunting maneuvers to take the Fulminatrix’s turrets and pursuing Tie Fighters down. In the fray of battle, his weapon’s systems become disabled, and BB-8 manages to fix them at the crucial moment to allow Poe to take the last of the turrets down.
This version of Poe is similar to the Trigger-Happy Flyboy we all know, but focused on enhanced mobility. Poe has access to an improved version of Overdrive Thrusters and an extra charge on his “Black One” title. BB-8 also gets a new ability to reflect how it helped fix the weapon’s malfunction, which can be used after slamming, to remove the disarm token and be able to take a shot. The improved mobility should compensate for his lack of secondary weapons, providing a new version of Poe that fills a new role.
Tallissan Lintra led Blue Squadron in the Evacuation of D’Qar, commanding the X-wings and A-wings that protected the MG-100 StarFortress on their run to bring down the Fulminatrix.
In Tallie’s Standard Loadout card we find “For The Cause”, a Talent upgrade that will be found in several pilots in the Resistance. With it, pilots will be able to “sacrifice” non-blank results when defending or attacking, to allow other friendly ships to remove strain or deplete tokens. “For the Cause” can be used while defending in a situation where you have too many Evade results already, or perhaps to help Heroic trigger by removing a focus result. You will see later in this article that plenty of abilities in the Resistance pilots will revolve around gaining strain and deplete tokens to do their utmost, sometimes even pushing themselves to their limits.
To further support her commander role, Tallie now has access to a linked red coordinate action, and completes her kit with access to XX-23 S-Thread Tracers, allowing her wingmates to get a lock on the enemy ships before they attack.
Stomeroni Starck is Tallie’s wingman at D’Qar, a capable pilot, able to match all of Tallie’s maneuvers effortlessly. While Stomeroni tries to support the rest of the squadron, he is known to be impulsive. His Accelerated Sensor Array will reward Stomeroni when flying fast, and even more so if those are advanced maneuvers. Thanks to R5-X3, Stomeroni should be able to exploit his access to an RZ-2 A-wing dial even more, and to keep dialing fast maneuvers, as it allows him to ignore any obstacles in the way to his targets.
C’ai Threnalli was a veteran pilot, capable of flying in multiple ships. C’ai also participated in the Evacuation of D’Qar as Poe’s wingman. This Standard Loadout card gives C’ai higher flexibility when performing the roll action, thanks to the Repulsorlift Engines, which paired with BB Astromech, will make it easier for C’ai’s to trigger his ability.
Finch Dallow was piloting the last operative MG-100 StarFortress in the battle, with Nix and Paige assisting as the main bombardier and gunner respectively. To enhance the MG-100 StarFortress bombing capabilities, Modular Bombing Magazine will allow you to drop your devices not only from the rear, but also from the sides of the ship. Finch's expertise allows him to use the bank template when dropping devices by gaining stress, while Nix will make sure that you will have enough bombs ready to be dropped. Thanks to the addition of a reload action to a linked red reinforce, the survivability of the ship is greatly improved. The linked action paired with Paige’s new functionality, allows you to shoot using your turret arc while disarmed. This means the MG-100 StarFortress should stay relevant in the fight, even in the rounds in which you will be reloading.
While the orbital combat took place, other members of the Resistance helped make sure that no one was left behind in the Resistance Base. Pammich Nero Goode piloted one of the last Resistance Transports that carried personnel from the base to the Resistance capital ships in orbit. Pammich gets several upgrades that focus on supporting her ability of being able to sustain multiple stress tokens. Black Squadron R4 allows her to remove all the stress tokens that she had gathered up until that moment. Pammich will be able to coordinate friendly ships and jam enemy ones thanks to RO-GR, while helping others to get in the perfect position to strike thanks to her ship ability.
That’s all we have for today’s preview, we will continue to share further previews in the upcoming weeks. Stay tuned!
One of the biggest draws for us to X-Wing as a game was the fantastic support and organized play (OP) system the various manufacturers provided to the game. Following the announcement to stop developing the game we loved, our first thought was what was going to happen to all the events we have been going to? When will we see those friends again that we might only see in person once or twice a year?
We hope that along with stewardship of the game we can provide some support to those who love to run and play in OP events, be they local, national or international! Eventually we will be looking to support all levels of organised play; campaigns, online play, alternative formats (including EPIC). For our initial support we are working on In-person Competitive Organized play, or what you may think of as the OP Pyramid.
Competitive OP starts for us in your local club or store and ends in the annual World Championships. It’s a progressive journey that you and your squad-mates can embark on and test yourself against some of the best pilots in your country, your continent or even across the globe.
The season will start on May 1st each year and run untill the following March/April. During this 10-11 month period Tournament Organizers (TOs), Event Organizers, clubs & stores, and conventions will be able to purchase and run an XWA Squad Championship. -This is similar to what you may have called a Store Championship before, but we don't want you to think it's only stores who can run these events. We hope to provide 2 different kits over the season so that TOs will get a new wave of alt arts to give away in the back half of the season (TBD). The winner of each Squad Championship will receive a Bounty Puck that can be cashed in at a System Open for a round 1 BYE. The Squad Championship is step one on our Pyramid, step two is the System Open.
The System Open kit will be a collective term, for what may have been called: “Regionals”, “Nationals”, “System Opens”, “Hyperspace Trials”, “World Open Qualifiers”, “Grand Tournaments” and even “Continental Championships”. Broadly speaking, all the System Opens will be the same, with the same prize support, and each will award a Bounty Puck to the winner to redeem a Round 1 BYE at the next World Championship!
Two System Opens are currently confirmed:
The Welsh Open 2025 – Firestorm Games, Cardiff, 19-20 July (tickets are on sale now!)
The European Continental System Open – Mechelen, Belgium, 28-29 August (Thursday & Friday, before the World Team Championship X-wing event).
The application process & details for further System Opens will be made in a future press release. Stay tuned for more information on Organized Play!
Many of us love playing casual games at our local stores but the opportunity to go somewhere, meet new people, rising to the challenge to test our skills is an experience that we still greatly enjoy. A major incentive for many of us within tournament play is the prizing. The shiny little trinkets that we receive can mean so much to us! Whether it's a new card for showing up or a trophy for winning, they hold meaning. Many of us have cards or other game components that are linked to cherished memories of great games or times spent with friends playing the game we love. We in the X-Wing Alliance (XWA) prize team are no exception to this and we are very excited to start sharing some of our future plans with you!
The new Squad Championship kits are designed to cater for 16 players and will provide a wide range of prizes for all players from multiple participation items up to the eventual champion. In order to not limit events to only 16 players AND to make sure we are providing the best possible value (and minimum waste!) we are also offering 8 player expansion kits with extra items to top up your event prize pool! We are not quite ready to reveal any specific items just yet, but trust us, we will be shouting it very loudly when we do. This is the way…
With shipping and packing being our biggest hurdle, it is very important that we have as much notice as possible. We are opening initial enquiries for the Squad Championship kits now! If you are interested in hosting a Squad Championship event then please visit this link!
Welcome to our second preview article for the upcoming Standard Loadout card packs, in which we will delve into a first look at the First Order in the Evacuation of D’Qar pack. The images of this post are not final, and things could still change before their final release, planned for April.
As discussed in our first article, the Evacuation of D’Qar pack features those pilots seen in the first two scenes of the Last Jedi. Those scenes encompass the arrival of the First Order’s Fleet to D’Qar, but also their pursuit of the Resistance at the Oetchi System.
The design goals for this set for First Order were to make thematic First Order units, but also to stress the faction identity of damaging themselves for short-term gains. First Order has tended to be a high agility, low damage faction, so
this set will give them abilities to deal and take more damage. This leads to an alternate play style than previously seen in the faction, while remaining thematic.
What drives the First Order on both of those encounters is their Determination to end the Resistance once and for all, after the blow they suffered with the destruction of Starkiller Base in The Force Awakens.
Determination is the Talent Upgrade that some of the First Order pilots will have access to, which allows them to increase their possible damage output at the risk of their own lives. The Zeta Squadron Leader, nicknamed “Scorch”, led his squad to seek revenge, aiming to take down the Resistance's MG-100 StarFortress SF-17 heavy bombers before they could land a hit on the Fulminatrix.
The combination of Determination and “Scorch’s” own pilot ability, means that he will be able to punish any enemies that stand in his bullseye, at the cost of his initial shield, which will also activate Fanatical. After that devastating attack, the
stress gained will allow Scorch to use his Threat Sensors to increase his defensive capabilities.
The First Order TIE Fighters also receive a chassis ability in this set: Reckless. Similar to the Imperial ability Ruthless, this gives you a chance to increase your damage, but at a cost. This also encourages running the lower initiative pilots, as the strain becomes less of a cost when no one is shooting after you.
Zeta 5 also proves their determination, equipped with a Pattern Analyzer to ensure that actions can be taken after performing a red maneuver. Their pilot ability will enhance their offensive capabilities against more skilled pilots, while their Targeting Matrix allows them to still get a use of a focus result when out of tokens.
Kylo Ren joins the fray later during the pursuit in the Oetchi System. In those scenes from the movie we see Kylo using his Autothursters to avoid all incoming fire from the Raddus, moments before he shoots his torpedoes at the vessel’s hangar. His determination and Malice is only halted when he seems unable to fire at the Raddus’s bridge.
Lieutenant Podin LeHuse was part of Kylo Ren’s personal squadron on his attack on the Raddus, and was the one who fired his missiles on the Raddus’s bridge.
LeHuse showcases the design’s goal for the TIE/sf in this pack. We wanted to explore ways to enhance the missile capabilities of the chassis, moving away from the commonly used Special Forces Gunner, which is a staple of the custom build version.
LeHuse has access to the Reload action, linked to a white Lock action, which should allow him to keep gaining charges on his Concussion Missiles. Paired with this, the First Order Ordnance Tech will grant a calculate token when gaining a disarm after Reloading, while also allowing to shoot a primary attack on enemies in the front arc while disarmed.
LeHuse's ability has been changed slightly to ensure that he can gain a lock at the start of the engagement phase by breaking a friendly lock on his target.
Theta 3 also shares the additional actions that LeHuse has, together with the First Order Ordnance Tech. Passive Sensors ensures that Theta 3 will have a way to get a lock on their target, even if their low initiative forces them to move first. Theta 3’s ability will also help them in their defensive capabilities, allowing them to get an evade token if they have no green tokens at the start of the engagement phase.
To end this design article, we come back to one last TIE/fo pilot, that acts as a support and enabler to both the TIE/sf from the pack, but also any other TIE who decides to lock enemies near Omega 2.
Omega 2 acts as a relay, allowing other friendly TIE to lock objects near Omega, ignoring the normal range restrictions. This could be a crucial addition for lower Initiative pilots that normally move before their desired target. In addition to that, while Omega 2 tries to secure a bullseye shot for Determination, Omega 2 can assist others when they acquire a lock on an enemy ship at range 0-1 from Omega 2. Allowing them a Calculate while Omega 2 takes a stress. To help Omega 2 get into the fray, the roll action gains a linked red Evade Action.
We hope you’ve enjoyed this preview and can’t wait to share more cards with you in the following weeks!
The X-Wing Alliance (XWA) is pleased to announce the design team has finalized and published a series of exciting new standardized loadout pilots across all seven factions for X-Wing Huge Ships!
These pilots are available for print and play immediately. Be sure to share with us how your EPIC games go with these new additions to the landscape. We understand epic and huge ships have not gotten as much attention as many of us would like, and see this as a fantastic opportunity for us to break out our huge ships and let the chaos ensue!
The X-Wing Alliance (XWA) is pleased to announce the points team has updated the beta points to version 4. These changes will reflect in the squad builders promptly, but may take several hours for a full update.
The breakdown of changes can be found here. THese adjustments are based on feedback and form responses from global playtesters. With this update, the XWA strongly reccomends to continue to submit your feedback via playtest forms.
Please stay tuned for more announcements in the near future regarding upcoming content from the design team and exciting updates drom the organized play team!
Welcome to our first preview for the upcoming Standard Loadout card packs The X-Wing Alliance (XWA) will be releasing after Adepticon, marking the beginning of the XWA designed content for X-wing!
We first wanted to make it clear that the new content being worked on is still a work in progress. As much as we’d like to share the content in full now, we feel it’s best to not show off work that is still being tested. We want to give each new piece of content the testing time it needs. Trust us, we’re super excited to show you our work, but we ask and appreciate your patience for the time being.
Next, a small explanation as to why we decided to start with creating new Standard Loadout cards for X-Wing. Standard Loadout cards offer the best path to make new content that has limited interaction with current content in the game. They’re all self-contained outside of any abilities that affect other friendly ships either from the new Standard Loadouts or from pilots and upgrades in the game now. With that, it allows us to mitigate the chance these new abilities break the game in some capacity. This doesn’t mean we’re taking it easy on these in testing, they are being put through the ringer as much as we can.
After determining we wanted to start with Standard Loadout pilots for our first wave of new content, we looked at where in the game they felt most needed. Two factions stood out immediately with the Resistance and the First Order since neither have received any Standard Loadouts yet. We know fans of those factions have had a strong desire to receive Standard Loadouts too. Once recognized, we concluded that Scum shouldn’t get left behind with just a couple Standard Loadouts from just one chassis in the YT-2400. Scum has a vast array of chassis and great opportunities for Standard Loadout card designs to really expand on their faction’s fantasy potential.
For both the Resistance and the First Order we decided to combine the opening scenes from Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The First Order’s attack on the evacuating Resistance forces at D’Qar and the follow up chase in the Oetchi System, where the Resistance tried to escape and unaware that the First Order could track them through Hyperspace. This means that the pack will have pilots such as Poe Dameron and Tallissan Lintra leading the MG-100 StarFortresses against the Fullminatrix, while the First Order will have Kylo Ren unleashing the First Order’s might against the Raddus. You’ll see the Resistance forces performing acts of heroism at the cost of their own safety at times, while others may try to save those trying to sacrifice themselves for the cause. The First Order on the other hand is out for vengeance for what happened to Starkiller Base. With reckless determination, they will do whatever it takes to bring down every single last ship in the Resistance.
For Scum & Villainy we decided to go with a different approach. Instead of having a pack based on a single scene or battle, we took inspiration from different shows and canon. Creating what could be considered an All-Star team of the faction. You will see the famed bounty hunters, including Cad Bane and Dengar. Notorious characters such as The Mandalorian or Bo-Katan Kryze that have been both the hunters and hunted. There were pilots in thematic moments and times we wanted to capture for these new Standard Loadout cards. Such as Han Solo during his infamous Kessel Run and Boba Fett during his chapters in the Book of Boba Fett.
That’s all we have for today. We hope this first preview of new content that XWA has in store for you brings you some excitement of what’s to come. This is just the tip of the iceberg both for our first wave of new content and everything we have in store for farther into the future! We will be unveiling the full cards in the future, so make sure to stay alert!

Hello X-Wing Community
2024 started with excitement for a hugely popular World Championships, the release of Battle Over Endor, and widespread hope of a bright future for our game and community; it finishes with that future in our hands, shining brighter than ever before.
It’s been six months since The X-Wing Alliance (XWA) took on the task of keeping X-Wing alive and thriving. In that time, we’ve moved quickly to bring the community together, organise the volunteer effort, and connect with players all around the world.
It hasn’t all been plain sailing and we’ve had plenty of robust discussions within the XWA. What we have seen, more than anything, is unbridled passion for the game. Thousands of hours dedicated to giving the X-Wing community the best we can imagine. We have issued and tweaked points, igniting a spark in the community, breathing new life into our beloved game. We have developed new Epic content to get huge ships back on the table. We have released a brand new tournament kit that will get exciting, premium prizes into the hands of Tournament Organizers (TO) everywhere. We have been designing a structured Organized Play (OP) pyramid that will energize players throughout 2025 and beyond.
Importantly, we have also set up a working structure for the XWA - one that will provide a foundation for all the great support that is yet to come. There is plenty more to come! Without giving it all away, we’re working on new variants of your favorite pilots - think Standard Loadout Poe leading the assault on the Dreadnought; continuously reviewing Points, based on feedback forms and what we can do to keep listbuilding fresh; got OP and prize kits that will get you itching to play, and we may even have some brand new content in development. This is the way.
None of this would have been possible without the passionate energy of the many XWA volunteers and playtesters, who have put in incredible amounts of work, drawn deeply from professional and gaming backgrounds, and set aside differences to build a better future for our game. We want to thank them for all their hard work and look forward to what they will continue to bring in 2025.
Finally, we want to thank all of you, the X-Wing community, from seasoned tournament organizers to first-time players, for believing in us, supporting our efforts, and all the feedback that keeps us going. It’s been a great year, and next year is going to be even better.
See you in 2025

The X-Wing Alliance (XWA) is pleased to announce the points team has updated the beta points to version 3. These changes will reflect in the squad builders promptly, but may take several hours for a full update.
The breakdown of changes can be found at xwing.life/resources/points. These adjustments are based on the vast array of playtest submissions. With this update, The XWA strongly recommends you continue to submitting your feedback via playtest forms found at xwing.life/resources/ptform.
Please stay tuned for very exciting news, updates, and teasers on the XWA roadmap coming soon!

These kits are perfect for Tournament Organizers to provide prizes to players at local, store level tournaments over the coming months.
The theme of these wave packs will focus on the ace pilots from the game. They will contain an initiative 6 pilot and associated upgrades from the featured factions.

The X-Wing Alliance (XWA) is pleased to announce its playtest squad lead by Daniel Lim (Isophane)! Daniel will work with his team on current and future releases to ensure that proper data is gathered to support the efforts of the Development Squad. Playtesting is vital because it is the last line of defense for components before being handed over for public use. A lack of data can lead to an unintended meta.
In addition to internal playtesting, the XWA now has a public playtest form for its Beta Points release that any and all players, including your opponent, are encouraged to use after their games. Here are some key points when using the form:
The goal of this playtesting cycle is to identify any problems with the current XWA beta points.
We are primarily looking for pilots or upgrades that are either too strong or too weak for their current points.
We also want to review the previously banned cards and make adjustments to those pilots and upgrades depending on your feedback.
Please do not include suggestions to fix the problems, let our development team handle the fixes.
Let us know what was fun and what was not fun!
Lastly, the points team has incorporated the newly released Imperial standard loadout pilots into the beta points structure. These additions accompany a handful of points updated across multiple factions. To see all changes and the playtest form, please visit xwing.life/resources
The X-Wing Alliance (XWA) is pleased to announce its beta points for public use! The Points Team has been extensively playtesting and revising points, and are excited to share them with the X-Wing community at large! In addition to the points release, the XWA is also unveiling its centralized site, xwing.life, for an easy and accessible repository for the XWA. Please head to xwing.life/resources/points for the beta points patch notes, points documents, and more!
With the beta points being released, the Points Team would like to add the following rule advisory for consideration: We'd like players to have the ability to build lists below the 20 point threshold without penalty. Currently, if you build below 20, the unused points would be automatically scored by your opponent. However, building to exactly 20 can sometimes implicitly restrict list building, or lead to choices you normally wouldn't consider because you need to fill the points.
We'd like players to consider building without this rule in effect for these points to see if doing so helps promote more diversity in list building and a healthier meta. While this rule alone isn't going to dramatically change the way lists are built, we hope that it will be a small first step to improving the game beyond the balance of the meta.
Later today , at 4 PM UTC, the XWA is hosting a discussion stage in the 2.5 Edition discord server with Points Team Lead Oli Pocknell, to discuss the beta points and the philosophy behind the changes made for list building. We are thrilled for this next chapter of X-Wing and are excited for you to join us!
The X-Wing Alliance (XWA) is excited to highlight Design Lead Paul Heaver! Paul is well known across the X-Wing community, having won multiple world championships and participated extensively in playtesting for both FFG and AMG.
Future content design is pivotal for the sustainability of the game of X-Wing. For now, Paul, joined by Ryan Staniszewski (Gold Squadron Podcast) are both focusing on testing data and addressing epic play. When asked about his short and long term goals as Design Lead, Paul says: “The first priority for the XWA Design Team is to release Epic updates for the current version of the game. This will test the Design process, and work it out for bigger design updates in the future. If you’re interested in playtesting the Epic game mode, let us know! As for those bigger design updates, we’re not prepared to release any details yet, but we have plans for more play modes, more pilots and upgrades, more scenarios, more Standard Loadout pilots! The big challenge will be to avoid adding [needless] complexity: one of the things I love about X-Wing is the relative simplicity of the system. I want to keep the fun, thematic play of X-Wing and I also want to make sure tournament players have the challenging metagame play they desire.”
The Design Team, alongside the Rules and Points Team, is tasked with working in a unified manner to ensure a solid foundation for long term success. Look out for exciting updates on the XWA’s beta points in the near future!
Hello pilots! We are very excited about our first tournament kit. After announcing the prizes, we decided it was best to update core parts of the kit. We greatly appreciate the excitement and feedback around these prizes, and we want to make sure we start off the XWA prize era with our best foot forward!
Once the tournament kit is updated, the document and registration links will be updated.
We will be sure to notify you when this is ready for pre-registration, something we eagerly look forward to in the coming weeks! We value your interest in hosting events with XWA prizes and thank you for your patience while we update the kit! Stay tuned!
The X-Wing Alliance deeply believes that Organized Play is an essential factor in cultivating and sustaining the X-Wing community. We are thrilled to announce the elections of key members of the Organized Play (OP) team! Making up the OP team, we have Tim King as OP Planning Lead, Dan Athey as Prize Support Lead, and Mark Hall as Tournament Organizer (TO) Support Lead.
The XWA believes both in-person and online support deserves to be accessible for all players around the world! Tim, Dan, and Mark leading their respective teams, are committed to bringing the excitement of X-Wing OP to as many local communities as possible. Tim, as OP Planning Lead, is tasked with creating a comprehensive and inclusive OP calendar looking ahead to 2025 and beyond. Mark, as TO Support Lead, will look to set up event organizers for success running tournaments of all sizes. Dan, as Prize Support Lead, will ensure events provide players with exciting additions to their X-Wing collections.
The Prize Support team is already planning our first tournament kit, one that will get players of all factions eager to get their ships on the table. Dan gives us future insight on the kit by saying “We've designed a modular tournament kit.. with the prizing designed around 9 of [some of] the best pilots across all 7 factions. A TO will be able to select two (or more) of the 9 pilots and have a tournament with unique prizing based on the pilots they chose.”
This kit is now available for registration!
Look out for information on XWA OP planning and future prize kits coming to a store near you!
Today we’re highlighting Mike Thompson, aka ‘Maui’, XWA’s recently elected Rules Lead and his vision for the coming months.
Maui is best known for his active part in a vast number of X-Wing communities where his understanding and ability to deliver consistent and accurate rulings makes him the go-to guy for rules queries. When asked about his goals as Rules Lead, Maui said, “As the Rules Lead, my goals are first: to build a lasting structure that will enable the XWA Rules Team to do its work effectively, and second: to create easily accessible online resources for reading the rules, having rules discussions, and making rules queries. In the long term, I will also be looking to improve the various X-Wing rules documents for clarity and for ease of reference.”
Maui and his team (Chris Allen, Conor Holmes, Dee Yun, Eirik Munthe, Kris Mitchell and Pete Lambro) are committed to making rulings consistent, accessible, and understandable for players. X-Wing is a game of nuance and the rules interactions are what can make or break games. The rules team is excited to be a cohesive team of incredible people with extensive backgrounds in ruling decisions.

Today we’re highlighting Oli Pocknell, XWA’s recently elected Points Lead and his vision for the coming months.
Oli is best known for his contributions with his 186th Squadron Channel, as well as his World Championship win in 2019. When asked about his goals as Points Lead, Oli said “We want to keep the game of X-Wing fresh and exciting and will do that by regular updates. You should expect [regular] points changes each year, deliberately rotating a competitive environment so your favorite ship will never be out of the sun for long. On that note, extended ships will be [a key] focus of our upcoming beta points update, giving you an opportunity to dust off some iconic ships that have been on the shelf for too long.”
Oli and his team are already hard at work crafting beta points for release soon. Joining Oli on the Points Team are Greg Kash (Nickel City X-Wing), Dale Cromwell (Rogue Outpost), and Catherine Nyxsera (Community Rep). Internal playtesting is set to begin soon, and we look forward to sharing more details on next steps for wider testing soon!

Hi everyone,
It’s been a whirlwind two weeks since AMG announced the end of X-Wing development. We’re thankful and delighted that we could quickly muster some community leaders and come together to keep the X-Wing game system going for what we hope is a very long time. Let’s get straight to the things you want to know:
Yes, we will be focusing on preserving the current X-Wing ruleset for the immediate future. We know there is a vibrant community of people out there playing and enjoying the game, and we want to maintain that. This also means Tournament Organizers who have put their resources and energy upfront to run GTs can be assured that they have our support. Over the longer term (not before the World Championships 2025 at Adepticon), we will assess the benefits of adjustments to the ruleset.
Yes, we have already started looking at points tweaks. This is tricky because the GT season will run using official Organized Play documents, which means current official points. As such, we will not release any updates for Standard until at least Adepticon 2025.
HOWEVER: over the coming months, we will offer beta versions of our points tweaks for the community to open playtest and feedback for iteration. You will be free to use those points as you wish and for your own events, but please remember that GTs will be using official documents.
Yes, we are considering applications to join the X-Wing Alliance group. We have had over 120 applications already through the dedicated form*, many of them from esteemed community leaders that we respect greatly. As we’re still settling into a working structure, we will be looking at these on a case-by-case basis while we build our team. Please understand this might take a little time: If you’ve applied, thank you for your commitment to the game and passion to help. Thanks again for your patience and bear with us while we establish solid foundations!
Yes, we are aware of the X-Wing Legacy project and other community-run initiatives. We are communicating, but it is too early to comment beyond that. We know there is an opportunity as a global playerbase to heal divisions, and move forward towards a future we can build on together. Regardless of the ruleset or game mode you enjoy the most, we want you out playing X-Wing!
What’s next? Over the coming weeks, we will be working on a lot of internal group structures. Ways of working, plans for the coming months, people to lead workstreams. Then fun things like points tweaks and ‘what if?’ can start; we’ve already got OP plans and Alliance prize support in the works.
You’ll have questions, comments, feedback. We’re reading everything we see on social channels, and if you want to get in contact, please use the form below** or feel free to message any of the current X-Wing Alliance signatories. If you don’t know any of them, you can always message one of us directly: our Discord handles are below.
We have a vision of X-Wing as a thriving community playing tabletop and online pewpew for years to come. Whatever got you into the game, however you enjoy playing it, we’re here to help you continue to do so for as long as we can. Fly casual, and see you at the tables!

Dear X-Wing Community, By now most of you have read the news of AMG ending development of both Star Wars: X-Wing and Star Wars: Armada.
After that news went public, a group of players representing communities across the world came together to create a unified organization to take community stewardship of X-Wing. This group includes the people behind several high-profile X-Wing communities and resources, and our collaborative goal is to keep the game healthy and guide it into the future. This is not an exclusive or closed group, and we will strive for transparency at all times.
Rest assured that we will do our very best to make sure that the end of the officially development does not mean the end of this game that we all love. We are still in the early stages of defining what needs to be done, and more communication will follow as the details become available.
For now, keep playing the game, and look to the future with hope and anticipation, Today marks the start of a new chapter in the X-Wing story, and we are out to make it the best one yet.
