Updated: 24/09/2024
Vision
Host the largest ever X-Wing World Championship in 2030.
Mission
The X-Wing Alliance is a unified collaborative effort to develop and grow the X-Wing Tabletop Miniatures Game. We proactively encourage everyone everywhere to play the game we all love through enthusiastic community building, measured game adjustments, and exciting organized play support.
Guiding Principles:
We are stewards of X-Wing: Tabletop Miniatures Game in lieu of any official development and support
We are a unified team of the community, representing the community, and acting for the community
We will actively pursue initiatives that maintain, develop and promote the growth of the game
Goals:
Nurture the community
Curate the game
Facilitate access to X-Wing
Promote an X-Wing ‘Lifestyle’
Values
Our loyalty is to the Republic [Community-driven]
We reflect the needs of the X-Wing community and will always put players at the heart of our decisions.
We are all the Jedi [Be open and welcoming]
We believe X-Wing is for everyone, and everyone should play the X-Wing game mode of their choice. We support all variants and ways of playing X-Wing.
Be the spark [Innovate]
We will find new and exciting ways to make X-Wing fun and thrilling to play, both casually and competitively. We believe in Organized Play as a powerful catalyst for growing the game.
Let go of your hate [Reconcile]
We know that the history of X-Wing has caused fractures and animosity in the player base. We strive to heal these rifts and bring players together.
Make ten feel like a hundred [Work together]
We bring our individual expertise and work together to create something much bigger and more powerful than we possibly could on our own.
Code of Conduct
Listen first. Respect each other and give others the benefit of the doubt.
This is a working Discord, please treat it as such
Use your real name. Please change your Discord nickname to your full real name or the name you are commonly addressed by (add any useful info in brackets after). This is a requirement for remaining in the server. Example format: [First name] [Last name] ([additional useful info])
Be professional. Please treat this Discord as a professional environment and not a social space. Your messages and how you engage with others should reflect this. Remember that being associated with the XWA means some things you say may be taken out of context or opposite of your natural intentions.
Stay on topic. Try to stay on-topic and move anything personal to DMs. Use thread replies where possible to keep channels clean. Remember that in general, everyone should be reading every message posted in the channels that they can see; essential messages should be tagged to pertinent groups and will be pinned for easy access.
Think about how you communicate. Please be mindful of where you are and how you post in the XWA server. It is important to be aware of the channels you are conversing in. Use general chat and personal channels for off-topic conversation. We ask everyone to keep forum and committee-related channels as clean and accessible as possible.
Prioritise the game, the players, then you. In that order. Check your ego at the door, always act in the best interests of the game, and represent the players and communities you represent. Personal ambitions, personal agendas and achievements must always come last.
Be proactive and contribute. There will always be people who want to be “on the inside” or “in the know”, and contribute little to the team effort. Please don’t be one of them. We will prioritize being inclusive of Members who want to step up and contribute a reasonable amount of their personal time to keep the X-Wing Alliance moving forward. Those who wish to stay to “lurk” or to simply be a person “on the inside” we will kindly ask to leave.
If you are inactive in the XWA, or are expecting your personal circumstances to limit your ability to contribute, please consider leaving the XWA. Inactive people may be asked to leave by the Council if they collectively feel that person is not contributing.Discuss and challenge. Everyone will bring lots of ideas and we should all be prepared to challenge them robustly, discuss solutions and break down proposals. Before making a suggestion, test your hypotheses and articulate your reasoning clearly. Debate respectfully, making an effort to present your arguments logically. Work together to make the best version of what we're working on!
Same team. Once XWA decisions are agreed on, we present them together, not as individuals. Respect the workgroup and remember that while there will inevitably be differing points of view on the matter, once we agree on a course of action, we should act in unison to carry it out. Be mindful of how you express your opinions, both within the XWA and in public. Don’t undermine the hard work of your peers or our agreements by talking them down if you disagree.
Take initiative and take action. It is easier to go from 1 to 10 than it is to go from 0 to 1. If you have a suggestion, write it up clearly and feed it to the workgroup so it can be discussed. If you have a problem, draft out what you think might be a solution (or several) before bringing it to the table. Don’t wait for someone else to do it. Go the extra mile. It really does help.
Communicate and care for each other. You are part of a workgroup that relies on collaboration and healthy communication. We will fail if we don’t. Always try to stay positive, and never make attacks on individuals, groups or organisations. Offensive behaviour or disrespect in the XWA will not be tolerated and perpetrators may be asked to leave.
Be honest and be good. Communication is paramount and trust is fundamental. Everyone expects you to do your best to communicate clearly and act in good faith for the game, your community and your peers.
Hold yourself to a higher standard. Expect more from yourself than you do of others, and never stoop to someone else’s level. Be accountable to your actions and have integrity. Consider carefully whether you should be participating in competitive OP, as this could raise conflicts of interest and bring unwanted questions from others [in practice, this does not mean you cannot participate in tournaments, but if you make the cut of an XWA event, you may want to consider dropping after the Swiss rounds].
Row together. By joining you agree to the Mission, Vision, Values, and Code of Conduct. These are always available for consultation here and here and here for your reference
Look after yourself, and if you can, someone else too. We all work for XWA in different ways and different time zones. If you receive a tag, message or see an interesting post outside of your XWA-working hours, please respond at a time that suits yours. Balancing work, personal life and XWA duties is unique and important for everyone.

Structure the XWA and ensure it is working towards the Mission
Encourage the Values and enforce the Code of Conduct
Mediate differences and help settle arguments, in an unbiased and objective way

Individuals may not serve more than two consecutive terms. There are no limits on the total number of terms that an individual may serve.
Subsequent terms to last ~12 months.
A vote of no-confidence in any Leadership individual can be triggered by any Member of the XWA. If a 2/3 majority of the XWA support the vote of no-confidence, then that person is removed and an immediate by-election for a replacement person is triggered.
Exact operating structure of Leadership to be decided between them, once voted in
Committee
The Committee is made up of a number of Lead roles as defined, structured and appointed by the Council. Committee Leads may be relieved of their duties by the Council at any time. All Committee roles are assumed to expire with the Council that appointed them.
Members
All participants of the X-Wing Alliance (XWA) Discord are considered to be a Member. Members must agree to this Charter or step down from the XWA.
Members are expected to be proactive participants and dedicate a reasonable amount of their time to support the efforts of the X-Wing Alliance. Nobody has the right to remain just because they are already in the Discord. Inactive Members may be asked by the Council to leave the Discord. Members who leave the Discord are free to return in the future by following the Recruitment process.
Above all, Members must consider the needs of the game and the Alliance ahead of their own.
As part of the XWA, there is an equal expectation between all Members to collaborate and participate. We understand some duties may be more demanding of one’s time, and we ask you to reconsider being involved if you are unable to provide the attention needed to contribute to the group effort. No one Member will be given preferential treatment over the other. As the XWA represents the entirety of the X-Wing player-base, we want to foster an environment that encourages and brings out the best ideas and practices out of all of us. If you are unable to set bias aside when it comes to the decisions of this group, we encourage you to defer to those who can.
Please remember that the XWA is a public-facing body and that we will constantly be judged by our peers. You may need to be prepared to justify your role in the XWA and what you are contributing, especially considering there are many people who have volunteered to join and help the XWA.
We must continuously strive to improve how we work and serve the X-Wing community, and that requires a commitment from all of us to contribute, or let others who can take over.
Recruitment
The XWA is not an exclusive or closed group and we will always consider adding the right people into the XWA if and when the opportunity arises. As a working group, we will only bring in people once we are certain they will have the time and desire to commit to a given role.
Recruitment is at the discretion of the Council, but any Member may nominate a person for a role in the XWA. Ideally, these individuals should be drawn from those who have expressed an interest in working with the XWA [application form ].
Changes to this Charter
Changes to this Charter may be proposed by the Council and require a 75% voting majority of the XWA to pass.
