A question came up tonight about how these two abilities interact together.
Chiss Engineering: After you fully execute a speed 3-5 maneuver, you may perform a Lock action. (...other part Irrelevant for this interaction)
Computer-Assisted Handling: After you fully execute a maneuver, you may spend 1 Charge to perform a Boost or Roll action.
One player using Captain Yorr executed a 3 Bank and loaded both abilities into the queue.
After performing Computer-Aided Handling Boost, that player then started to measure for Lock provided by Chiss Engineering for a target that was now in range but was highly unlikely to be before the Boost.
The disagreement was that the check for Lock should have been made when the ability went in the queue as that would be the point of "After you execute a manoeuvre".
The counterargument was that if you have abilities in the queue, you choose what order to execute them (such as in the Rules Reference pages 36-37 for Afterburners vs Fine-Tuned Controls).
The counter counterargument was that at the time of entering the queue the Lock would have been out of range and so would have been an invalid target, as per the "requirement for an ability" on page 36, and so another target must be chosen for the lock.
The counter counter counterargument was made that the Lock is an action so, just like the Afterburners/Fine-Tuned interaction, you choose when those actions take place and therefore when the checks take place.
We chose to allow the Boost before checking for Lock.
To summarise, the question is which of these (or other, if there is another option that we missed) is the correct resolution:
A
Both Chiss and Computer-Assist enter the queue, choose what happens first and execute that before testing the second.
OR
B
Both Chiss and Computer-Assist enter the queue, but you must check for Lock capabilities before executing either the Lock or Boost.
